This is an overview of our first OSSEV® and the project is called 'OSSEV 1' for now. We aim to develop a practical, 2-seater, sports EV that meets the following key targets:
- Weighs less than 950 kg with the 32 kWh battery option and less than 1100 kg with the 64 kWh battery option.
- More than 300 hp and 350 Nm torque.
- The 32 kWh battery option giving a range of approximately 80 to 130 miles. A 64 kWh option giving a range of approximately 160 to 260 miles. Range estimates obviously vary with driving style and ambient temperature.
- Components costs to build an OSSEV 1 will be less than £20,000.
The fundamental principles behind the OSSEV 1 design and concept:
- The OSSEV 1 will be designed for great driver involvement and fun, predictable handling when driven hard.
- A low weight target will be combined with a low centre of gravity and good weight distribution.
- The use of open-source hardware and software will significantly reduce the material costs to build the OSSEV 1.
- The use of open-source hardware and software will enable anyone to build and collaborate on future improvements and upgrades.
- Readily available parts and spares from a wide range of suppliers will reduce build, maintenance and repair costs, resulting in much cheaper insurance costs.
- No expensive or overly complex parts to support things like assisted driving, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, etc.
- Well documented designs, specifications and service schedules will enable owners to safely maintain and service their OSSEV 1 or skilled service centres to do this on their behalf.
- There will be no subscription services or apps, tying owners to third parties.
